Wow!!!…what can I say about Tulum.  It’s one of the most unique Mayan sites I’ve visited so far (of six).  It’s on the Eastern coast of Mexico.  As usual I don’t want to get into the nitty-gritty details of the site itself since you can look it up.  I do want to give you the highlights of my visit.  I hope my highlights/impressions help you make a decision about visiting Tulum (my vote is YES).

Get there early to avoid the crowds.  I recommend hiring a private guide and driver if your budget allows.  We hired AIG and were very happy with their service.  They didn’t flinch at all when we asked if they could pick us up earlier.  We were just wrapping up as the tour buses started to arrive.

Our tour included a trip to Xel Ha on the way back.  Xel Ha is an all-inclusive park, with snorkel and other water activities.

Tulum is on a bluff above the Caribbean Sea.  This is very unique to Mayan ruins and the view is amazing.

Tulum has a wall built around the entire site.  I haven’t seen this at any of the other sites I’ve visited.

The site is fairly small in comparison to sites, such as Chichen Itza.  It won’t take more than a couple of hours to see it all.  You get some history and beauty, while still having time left to enjoy other activities the same day.

My over all suggestion…GO, GO, GO…it’s unique and the views are fantastic.
